Why do gay marriage supporters think we will recognize their marriages?

Just cause some leftist politicians say your marriage is as real as heterosexual marriage we who don't support it ( most of population) will never recognize your union together. So what was the point of this all? U didn't change our minds and didn't get any more benefits so it was a waste of time.
